Kobe’s literary career began in 2020 with Hiking Mount Kobe: A Dog’s Guide to the Blue Mountains and it remains his best-selling and best-known work. Having moved to the Blue Mountains the year prior, he was determined to sniff out every trail where dogs were allowed in an area long considered not dog-friendly.

Many fans demanded a sequel over the years and by 2025 Kobe had discovered enough new trails to fill a new book, Mount Kobe Magic: More Dog Adventures in the Blue Mountains.

Kobe’s love of hiking was only matched by his love of eating, so in 2022 he decided to diversify his literary genres and ventured into cookbooks. Though his recipes were intended for dogs, they had many humans salivating over them – just as well they only contain human-grade ingredients and are perfectly safe for humans.

Press coverage from his cookbook release led to him being crowned Australia’s furriest chef and Australia’s furriest author – both of which stand uncontested to this day. He also promoted his book on morning TV shows, where the (very human) hosts even tried a few nibbles of his dishes.

The cookbook sold out and is no longer available in printed form, but all its original recipes plus 12 new recipes have been combined into an e-book, How To Eat Like A Kobe (E-book updated April 2026).

Kobe’s other literary ventures include Boozehounds and Kobernet: Dog-friendly wineries of Australia – a guide to travelling around our major wine regions with your furry mate in tow and Kobe Island: A Giant Dog’s Magical Adventure – a foray into books for little readers of the two-legged variety.
